Dorothy Phillips

Dorothy Hammer Phillips, age 97, passed away on Sunday February 22, 2015 at Manchester Commons.

Born in Sterrettania, PA on March 13, 1917 she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Ethel Henry Hammer.

A graduate of Millcreek High School, Class of 1935, Mrs. Phillips had been employed with the Millcreek School District for 32 years retiring as Food Service Manager in 1979.

She was a lifetime member of Weis Library United Methodist Church, a member of the United Methodist Women, a member of the church choir, was a Sunday school teacher, and served on various church boards. She was a volunteer for CHOSEN and Pleasant Ridge Manor. She enjoyed cooking and gardening.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard R. Phillips (1996); daughter, Marjory A. Parker (2000); son Maurice A. Phillips (2012); sister, Laura Beyer; two brothers, Norman H. Hammer and Robert Hammer; two sisters-in-law, Peggy Hammer and Doris Hammer.

Survivors include her brother, Clifford Hammer of Daleville, VA; sister in law, Wilda Hammer, of Erie; son-in-law, James “Jim” (Shirley) Parker; two grandchildren, Bernard (Brenda) Parker of Millcreek, and Thomas (Debi) Parker of Cincinnati, OH; four great grandchildren, Adam Parker and his friend Kayla Persing, Bradley, Joseph, and Irene Parker. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mom, grandma, great grandma and friend. With her strong faith in God, she was an example to everyone around her.

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 West 26th Street at Powell Ave on Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Weis Library United Methodist Church 6020 Heidler Road Fairview, PA 16415 with Rev. Frank Hodges officiating.

Burial will be in Weis Library Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Weis Library United Methodist Church 6020 Heidler Road Fairview, PA 16415 and to CHOSEN Mission Project 3638 West 26th Street Erie, PA 16506.
