Dorothy Kupniewski

April 18, 1945 — July 31, 2016

Dorothy A. Lubman Kupniewski, 71, of Millcreek, passed away peacefully, on Sunday, July 31, 2016 at UPMC Hamot in Erie, PA surrounded by her family and devoted husband Joe at her side, following an extended illness.

She was born in Erie on April 18 to the late Joseph and Virginia (Mikolaczyk) Lubman.

Dorothy was a 1964 graduate of East High School in Erie, PA and member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. She attended classes at Erie Business Center and worked at Super Duper, TJ Maxx, and Plastek. Her most enjoyable years were spent as the owner of Washington Avenue Flower Shop where she was sure to make any occasion one of great celebration. She was a life member of the Polish Falcons Nest 610, Polish Falcons Nest Post 123, and Sunflower Club. Other passions were home gardening, cooking, watching movies that made her cry, and Elvis. Her greatest blessing was time spent with her five grandchildren who she lovingly bounced on her knee, gave cooking lessons, or played card games.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Ronald Lubman, nephew Mark Glennon, and brothers-in-law Frank Kupniewski, and Thomas Gorny.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory her best friend and loving husband of 48 years, Joseph. Throughout her illness, Joe tirelessly and effortlessly held her hand and prayed with her each day of her stay at Presque Isle Rehab and Nursing Center, Select Specialty Hospital, and UPMC Hamot.

She is also lovingly survived by her daughter Lisa DiPlacido, husband Chris, and grandchildren Brittany, Courtney, and Mckenzie; son Kevin Kupniewski, wife Diane, and grandchildren Nicholas and Aaron all of Millcreek. She is further survived by a sister Theresa Glennon, husband Jack; a brother John Lubman, a sister Roberta Lubman; a brother Charles Lubman, wife Karen. Also surviving is sister-in-law Audrey Yerkey, husband Rich of Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews.

Friend may call at Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 West 26th Street (at Powell Avenue) Erie, PA 16506 on Wednesday from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm. and are invited to attend services there on Thursday at 10 am. with Rev. David Renne celebrant. Interment to follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff at Presque Isle Rehab and Nursing Center, Select Specialty Hospital, and UPMC Hamot for the care given to Dorothy.
