Dorothy Holmes

Dorothy Cleon (Shelton)Holmes, age 93, of Girard, Pennsylvania, formerly of Del City, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 surrounded by her family and loved ones. Dorothy was born in Romulus, Oklahoma on January 30, 1920. Daughter of the late John and Clara Shelton. Dorothy loved sewing, canning, gardening, baking, and playing dominos with her friends and family. She was a strong woman of faith and loved her church, friends, and family. She was known for the smile on her face, her laughter and sense of humor, her delicious cooking, and her hospitality. She was loved dearly by all those who knew her. Dorothy's first priority was always the care of her family and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack H. Holmes in 1995; brother, Darrell Shelton in 2001; brother-in-law, Lester Banning in 2012; daughter-in-law, Carolyn "Sue" Holmes in 2013, and grandson, David P. Miller in 2012. She is survived by her four children, Bob A. Holmes, of Oklahoma; Lewanna Luciano and her husband, Paul Luciano, of Fairview, PA; Hubert L. Holmes, and his wife Sandra Holmes, of Girard, PA; and Edgar K. Holmes, and his wife, Debby Holmes, of Erie, PA.; her sister, Juanita Banning, of Oklahoma, and brothers, Jack Shelton and his wife Jan, of Maryland, and Mack Shelton and his wife Lola, of Florida; nine grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Friends and family are welcome to attend a memorial service on Friday, 6pm, at Erie Christian Fellowship Church, 5900 Sterrettania Rd., Fairview. Calling hours will be held at Ford Funeral Home, 305 South Sooner Rd, Midwest City, Oklahoma. Burial will be in Brown Cemetery, Pink, Oklahoma, on Monday, October 14.
