Dorothy Congdon Bennett, age 94, of Fairview, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2015, at her residence.
She was born in Conneaut, Ohio, on March 17, 1921, a daughter of the late Arleigh and Effajean Terrill Congdon.
Dorothy graduated from Rowe High School in Conneaut. She worked as a beautician, first out of her home in Conneaut and then at Moran’s for a number of years. She will be remembered for her extraordinary needlework, crocheting and quilting skills. She also loved working in her flower beds, baking for her family and watching the antics of the birds and squirrels outside her window. Dorothy was very active in the Fairview Area Historical Society and Fairview Garden Club. She was also a member of the Fairview United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Harold Bennett. Together they built a vacation retreat in Ontario, where the family spent much time fishing and boating.
Dorothy is survived by two daughters: Connie Walker and her husband, David of Fairview and Patricia Kowalczyk and her husband Donald of Waterford; a son, Jack Bennett and his wife Mary of Senoia, GA; and a sister, Neiva Chapin of Conneaut, OH. She was the loving grandmother of eight grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. She was also a special aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. East in Girard on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8pm, and are invited to attend a funeral service at Fairview United Methodist Church, 4601 Avonia Rd. on Tuesday at 1pm. with Rev John Greber officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery.
