Doris Sayre

Doris M. Sayre, age 87, of Harborcreek passed away Saturday, February 11, 2017. She was born on June 9, 1929 in Titusville, PA, a daughter of the late Raymond L. Patterson and Maybe H. Beach.

She attended Wesleyville High School where she met her future husband, Thurl G. Sayre “Bill”. The couple were married on June 11, 1948 at the Wesleyville Methodist Church.

She was an active member of the Harborcreek School District PTA, as well as supporting her children as their room mother. As a volunteer at Brevillier Village she especially took pleasure in helping the residents bowl. Doris also enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting, and time spent with her grandchildren. She also spent many pleasurable hours with Bill on the backyard swing watching birds and other wildlife in their backyard and woods.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one son, Ronald G. Sayre, and by three sisters, June Matson, Marie Beach, and Arlene Patterson.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Bill Sayre. She is survived by three sons, Raymond Sayre, Douglas Sayre, and Roger Sayre; and one daughter, Darlene D. Rzodkiewicz, all of Erie. One sister, Phyllis Woycheck of Erie. She is also survived by seven grandchildren; Glenda Sayre (Robinson) of Wheeling, WV, Rebecca Sayre (Kubeja), Belinda Sayre (Flickner), Jessica Sayre, Johne Rzodkiewicz, Lacey Rzodkiewicz, and Faith Sayre, all of Erie. She is further survived by five great-grandchildren; Janelle Carlson of Erie, Miranda and Tyler Robinson of Wheeling, WVA and Hannah and Kaylie Flickner of Erie.

There will be no calling hours and funeral is to be private at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Burton Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. 602 West 10th Street, Erie, PA 16502.
