Doris Amthor

Doris Amthor, age 91, formerly of Erie, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2018 in Jacksonville, Florida.  “Dorie” was born in Erie on November 14, 1927, the daughter of the late Clifton and Catherine Froess Thorr.

Dorie loved her family deeply and was steadfastly supportive to us in every way.  Her laughter, cheer and wit will remain in our hearts forever. Dorie thoroughly enjoyed playing and watching tennis, listening and dancing to the Broadway and Sinatra classic hits and playing card games of euchre.  She was our very own “Euchre Queen.”

Dorie was married to the late Jack Amthor, former President of Amthor Steel, and together were active members of the Erie Yacht Club, Kahkwa Club, and Erie Maennerchor Club among others.  In addition to raising their six children, Dorie was involved in the Chamber of Commerce Auxiliary, Erie Yacht Club Auxiliary and enjoyed volunteer work.

Following the death of her husband Jack in 1980, Dorie relocated to Venice, Florida and subsequently to Jacksonville, Florida to be closer to her children. There, she loved walking the beautiful beaches and enjoyed her tennis.

In addition to her parents and husband, Dorie is preceded in death by her brother, Jack Thorr.  

She is survived by her loving children, Lauren Amthor, of Erie, PA, Rebecca (Gary) Amthor-Bone, of Jacksonville, FL, Heidi (Jim) Rickloff, of Morrisville, NC, Henry (Barb) Amthor, of Hampton, VA, John (Teri) Amthor, of Jacksonville, FL and Douglas (Sarah) Amthor, of Yorktown, VA., along with 10 grandchildren and sister, Catherine ‘Kay’ Hill, of Erie, PA.; and several nieces, nephews and great grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26^th Street, (at Powell Avenue) on Friday November 30th from 4:30 to 7:00 pm and are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Jude the Apostle Church on Saturday, December 1st at 11am. Burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery.
