Donald Young

Donald F. Young, age 77, of Millcreek entered into eternal life on Monday May 5, 2014 at St. Vincent Health Center.

Don was born in Pittsburgh on November 10, 1936, son of the late Frank and Elizabeth Quiter Young.

He graduated from Connelly High School and was a veteran of the U. S. Army. Don moved to Erie in 1966, and retired from Eriez Magnetics with over 22 years of service. He was a longtime member of Our Lady of Peace Parish, their Men’s Society, and Senior Group, as well as a 4th degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus.

Don loved spending time with his family, enjoyed golf and traveling (especially winter trips to Florida) and was a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his step-father Fred K. Raab, a brother Paul Young and a sister Bonnie Dudley.

Don is survived by his wife of 49 years Ruth Filo Young whom he married on September 26, 1964; three sons, Brian Young and his wife Jessica, Keith Young and his wife Jamie, all of Erie and Jeffrey Young and his wife Angela of Pittsburgh and four grandchildren Nathan and Gabriel Young of Erie and Zachary and Abigail Young of Pittsburgh. He is further survived by two brothers Frank N. Young and his wife Kim of Hilton Head, Fred K. Raab and his wife Ruth of Charlotte, two sisters Terry Lofink and her husband Dave and Linda Hosey and her husband Tom of Pittsburgh, sister-in-law Alberta Young of Tampa, and brother-in-law George Dudley of Pittsburgh, along with several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the medical staff of St. Vincent’s Health Center and St. Mary’s Home for the dedicated care and support provided to Don.

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 West 26th Street (at Powell Ave.) on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm and are invited to a prayer service there on Friday at 9:15 am, followed at 10:00 am by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Peace Church, 2401 West 38th Street. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
