Donald Tibbits

November 12, 1935 — April 27, 2017

Donald D. Tibbits, age 81, of Erie, passed away on Thursday April 27, 2017 at Forestview.  He was born in Glen Ellyn, IL on November 12, 1935, a son of the late Henry and Betty Conlon Tibbits.

 

Donald was born and raised in the Chicago area.  He graduated from Glenbard High School in 1953 and DePauw University in 1957.   Following college he served three years with the U.S. Army in Paris as a plain clothed counter intelligence investigator, honorably discharged in 1964.   He attended law school in San Francisco for one year before joining Crown Zellerbach for two years.   He then worked at Hammermill Paper Company on the west coast for four years until they transferred him to Erie, where he settled and raised his family.  He was instrumental in Hammermill’s strategic planning, computer modeling, and financial planning departments.   He retired after 24 years.

 

Donald was a charter member and elder of Church of the Cross.  Don was a kind man.  He had immaculate character, always looking at the positives of people and of life.

 

The family would like to extend warmest thanks to the staff of Forestview for their loving care of Donald for the past eight years.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Michael K. Tibbits, a sister Betty Ann Prichard, and a brother Bob Tibbits.

 

He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years Susan L. Hittle Tibbits, a son Matthew M. Tibbits and his wife Kristina and their daughter Abigail of Crofton, MD, a sister-in-law Irene and his dear cousins Marilou and Bob Ducey of Florida. Two nieces and a nephew further survive.

 

Friends are invited to call on the family on Tuesday May 2nd from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 W. 26th St. (at Powell Ave.), and attend services on Wednesday May 3rd at 11 am at the Church of the Cross, 5901 Millfair Rd, Fairview, PA  16415, with Rev. James McCormack presiding.  Private burial in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
