Donald Smith

Donald M. Smith, age 95, formerly of Girard, passed away on Thursday February 9, 2023 at Millcreek Community Hospital.

He was born in Butler, PA on December 9, 1927, a son to the late Samuel and Jessie Moyer Smith.

Donald graduated from Albion High School and went on to serve in the United States Army/Air Force.  He worked as a barber for many years.  He liked pitching horseshoes, antique cars, playing pool and was an avid poet. He enjoyed his winters in Florida and loved his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Darryl Matthew Smith; a sister, Helen and a brother, Ben.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Thelma Smith; two daughters, Patricia A. Cousins and her husband Matthew of Millcreek and Sandra M. Charney and her husband Charles of Johnsonburg, PA; seven grandchildren, Matthew, Jason, Charles, Danielle, Breanne Kelly and Brent; twelve great grandchildren; a sister, Millie Conley and her husband John of Albion and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main Street East, in Girard on Monday from 4:00pm - 7:00pm and are invited to a prayer service there on Tuesday at 9:30 follow by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am at St. John the Evangelist Parish. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery in Crossingville with full military honors.
