Donald Vincent Pulice, age 90, of Fairview, passed away on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at his residence.
He was born in Pittsburgh, PA on May 6, 1931, a son of the late Frank and Ruth (Marra) Pulice.
He graduated from St. James High School in Pittsburgh, PA in 1949. That same year he moved to Erie with his family.
He worked at Cook’s Market before entering the US Navy in 1950 during the Korean War. He served for four years as a 1st Class Petty Officer on the Destroyer D.D. 520. He supervised on L.S.D. #1, the USS Ashland and also served at Argentia, Newfoundland as lead cook at the Naval Dispensary Hospital and Supply Office for the entire Naval Base there.
He married Orinda (Leo) Pulice in 1955. They had six children: he is survived by two daughters and three sons, Michele Pulice, Danelle Pulice Stone and husband David, Dana Pulice and wife Barbara, all of Erie, Michael Pulice and wife Tammi of New Port Richey, FL, Donald Pulice Jr. (Cyndi) of St . Petersburg, FL and a son-in-law, Robert Malyuk of Erie. He is further survived by eight grandchildren, Nicoletta and JC Cherry, Joshua Stone, Karli Pulice, Kelsie, Mia Rose and Nicholas Pulice and Julie Iye and her husband Gufran Gungor, a sister, Kathryn Santangelo of Ohio, and many nieces and nephews.
Donald owned and operated Seaway Market at 10th and Weschler for 25 years. He served on the Board of Directors at Home Owners Food Stores for 15 years and served as President for three years. He also worked at St. Vincent Heath Center for 22 years as Supervisor and purchasing agent for the Food and Nutrition Department. After he retired he worked at the hospital as a volunteer.
He was preceded in death by a beloved daughter, Melanie Pulice Malyuk, a brother, John Pulice, a sister in-law, Margaret “Peggy” Pulice and a brother-in-law, Pat Santangelo.
He was a long time member of Our Lady of Peace Church where he was a Eucharistic Minister. Donald and his wife Orinda spent their winters at their home in Dunedin, Florida.
Friends may call at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, West Ridge, 3801 West 26th Street, on Tuesday, November 30th from 3pm to 7pm and are invited to a mass of Christian burial on Wednesday at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 2401 West 38th St. at 10:30 a.m., with Father Michael DeMartinis officiating. Burial to follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
All CDC guidelines will be followed and a mask must be worn.
