Donald Paulson

Donald B. Paulson, age 88, of Edinboro died Tuesday, November 6, 2012, at Rolling Fields Nursing Home in Conneautville. He was born in Erie on June 6, 1924, a son of the late Frithiof and Emma Christiansson Paulson, Swedish immigrants. Don was a graduate of Academy High School in 1942 and earned his Bachelor of Art Education from Edinboro State Teachers College and a Masters in Fine Arts from Penn State University. He was a proud veteran who served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Don taught art in the Fairview School District for 32 years and was the golf coach for 25 of those years. He had many hobbies; he was an excellent bowler (700 club) and an avid golfer –a hobby he loved to share with family and friends. He was a great teacher impacting thousands of lives during his career at Fairview, as well as an active member of the Fairview United Methodist Church and the Fairview Lions Club. He dearly loved his family and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle and loved nothing more than spending time sharing stories and cherished memories.

In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his first wife, Jacqueline May Rausch Paulson. He was also predeceased by five siblings: Ethel Paulson Jenkins, Edith Paulson, C. Eric Paulson, Sr., George Paulson and Kenneth Paulson, as well as his father-in-law John Rausch, Sr. and brothers-in-law John Howard and Jack Arrigo.

Don is survived by his wife, Jacquelene Ann Howard Paulson; his children: Sue Ann Simmons and her husband Marty of Edinboro, James B. Paulson and his wife Lauren of Franklin, Diane King Stouffer and her husband Dale of Chandler, AZ, and David King and his wife Lisa of Scottsdale, AZ; a sister: Ingrid Paulson Kwiatek of Palmyra. Additionally, he is survived by seven grandchildren: Grant Simmons of Wheaton, IL, Brette Simmons Smith and her husband Adam of South Bend, IN, and Caroline Simmons of Edinboro, Lexie King, Lauren King and Morgan King, all of Scottsdale, AZ, and Raelin Stouffer of Chandler, AZ; sisters-in-law: Joan Paulson and her husband Eric (Don's nephew), Marcia Arrigo, and Patty Howard; brother-in-law John Rausch, Jr. and his wife Bertha; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main Street East in Girard on Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Burton's All Faiths Chapel with Rev. Dennis Miller of Fairview United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
