Donald Obuszewski

January 17, 1948 — April 11, 2021

Donald Joseph Obuszewski, age 73, passed away after struggling with Parkinson’s disease for many years, April 11, 2021 in Loma Linda, CA. He was born in Erie, PA on January 17, 1948 to the late Max and Josephine (Pinczewski) Obuszewski.

Obie was proud of his Polish Heritage, and his Catholic school education, (St. Stan’s, Prep, Gannon). After graduation from Gannon, he joined the USMC (At the encouragement of his father in law) and completed rigorous flight school training at NAS Pensacola FL. He became a Naval Flight Officer, RIO, in the F-4 Phantom II (Slow and Low). While stationed in El Toro, CA he successfully fulfilled the NFO Dreams of completing “Top Gun” training at NAS Miramar, CA; and Carrier “Tail Hook” Qualified aboard the USS Enterprise while stationed in the Far East, and was promoted to the rank of Captain. Living in Southern, CA he returned to university life and earned an MS degree at USC. He was employed as a contracts manager in the aerospace industry.

His brothers Kenneth and Robert (Sandy) preceded him in death.

He is survived by his brother Max (Janice), nieces and nephews, Kenneth, Mark, Christine, Katie, and Kara. He is further survived by his godchildren, Mary Beth Molter, and Jordan Chechitelli. Many dear and loving relatives, steadfast friends, Frank and Cathy Chechitelli. Several Marine Corps friends who checked in on him over the years. His former wife Beverly, who was with him in his final week, and comforted him as he “slipped the surly bonds of earth to touch the face of God”

Friends are invited to call on the family, Friday, August 13th 2021, at Saint Stanislaus Church, 507 E 12th St, Erie, PA 16503 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral mass at 12:00 Noon. Arrangements are entrusted to Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Service Inc. 602 W. 10th St. Erie.
