Donald Marquis

Donald Sidney Marquis, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 in Millcreek.

He was born in Erie PA on June 16, 1924, son of the late Leonne (Glorel) and Sidney A. Marquis.

Don graduated from Strong Vincent High School. He served in the Army Air Corp and was proud to be trained as a bombardier during World War II. He retired as a supervisor from the US Postal Service after 30 years.

Using his work experience from Schluraff Floral Company, he had his own greenhouse where he grew flower and vegetables plants for his family and friends. Besides gardening, his interests included sports and reading the daily newspaper from cover to cover. He was a lifetime member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. He served 10 years as a volunteer firemen for Westlake Fire Department and as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for 11 years.

Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his son in law, Jack P. Fish

Don is survived by his loving, devoted wife of 67 years, Clara Louise Bettis Marquis, one daughter Donna Fish, Gainsville, GA, three sons, Dennis and wife, Denise, Timothy and wife, Chris, Randall and wife, Judith, all of Erie. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Mark Fish and wife, Wendy, Ball Ground, GA, Joey Solosky and husband, Paul of Winchester, VA, Brian Marquis, Megan Marquis, Jay Marquis, David Marquis, Veronica Marquis all of Erie, PA and his great grandchildren Marissa Fish, Brittany Fish, Braeden Fish, all of Ball Ground, GA, and Jamys Solosky, Ronan Solosky of Winchester, VA

A memorial service will be at St Mark’s Episcopal Church 4701 Old French Rd, Erie PA 16509 on Friday, July 18th at 11:00 a.m. with Father Don Baxter officiating.

Arrangements are entrusted to Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26 Street, Erie, PA 16506.

Memorials may be made to St Mark’s Episcopal Church, or to a charity of one’s choice.
