David R. “Dutch” Wittenburg, age 89, of Millcreek, passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Manchester Commons.
He was born in Erie on February 12, 1927, a son of the late Louis and Edna Keep Wittenburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Marian B. Wittenburg, a son, Richard Wittenburg, a grandson, SSG. Jeremy Horton a sister and three brothers.
Dave was a 1945 graduate of Millcreek High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked as a material handler at Comptech (Perry Plastics) and retired from there after many years of service. Dave was a member of the Siebenbuerger Club. He also enjoyed fishing, camping and his greatest joy was spending time with his family. Dave had a great sense of humor and loved playing jokes on those he was with.
He is survived by a daughter, Gretchen Miller and her husband Adam; daughter-in-law Sharon Wittenburg; a grandson, Jason Horton and three great grandchildren, Michael, Tamara, and Layla. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 W. 26th Street (at Powell Ave) on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at 4:00 p.m. Private burial will be in Erie County Memorial Gardens.
