David O. Thayer age 84, of Fairview, passed away Sunday, December 13, 2020 at St. Vincent Health Center.
He was born in Erie on November 3, 1936 a son of the Late William O. and Bertha Smith Thayer.
David was a graduate of Academy High School, served in the United Sates Army, and started his career as a linemen for 8 years with Penelec in Erie. He went on to be founder and owner of Thayer Power and Communication Line Construstion Company in Fairview from 1964 to 2000.
He was a gentleman’s farmer at his residence on Van Camp road. He served on the Fairview Township Planning Commission for 30 years. David will be remembered for always having his business suit on and a ten gallon hat on his head. He loved to travel and was well liked by many.
He was a long time member of home christian fellowship.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Shirley J. (Luden) Thayer; and three brothers, John, William, and Richard Thayer; and a sister Lois Vaclavik.
David is survived by his sons: Jeffrey D. Thayer of Chicago; Joseph A. Thayer and his wife Kelly of Summerville, SC; James A. Thayer and his wife Lauren of Fairview; his daughters, Julie M. Faster and her husband Robert of Franklin, TN; Janice A. Harper and her husband Andrew of Centreville, MD; a sister Susan Greider of Girard; 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. Girard on Tuesday from 4 to 7pm and on Wednesday from 10 until the time of service at 11am. All CDC guidelines will be followed. The service also may be viewed at https://facebook.com/BurtonFuneralHomesAndCrematoryInc.
Burial to follow at Sterrettania Cemetery with full Military Honors. The family wishes to thank St. Vincent’s Hospital for their care and compassion over the last two weeks.
