David Scarpitti, Sr.

    David L. Scarpitti, Sr., 74, of Erie, passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at Pleasant Ridge Manor West, just a week before his 75th birthday. He was born January 28, 1940, in Butler, PA, son of the late Edward and Virginia Myers Scarpitti. A 1958 graduate of Erie Tech High School, he served in the Army National Guard. He was a pattern maker by trade working for various companies including Bucyrus Erie, Erie-Malleable Iron, Independent Pattern, Peres Pattern, and Lord Corp.
     In his younger years, David enjoyed hunting and fishing, wood working, and ceramics. He was very handy and enjoyed fixing things and working on cars. He also loved to cook and bake, often making his famous pizzelle cookies for his grandkids.
     David's family wishes to extend a special thank you to his nurses and caregivers at Pleasant Ridge Manor West. Their care and concern for David went beyond the basics. They became his second family, and he loved them. For that, his family will be eternally grateful.
     In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Maxine Zydonik, and two sisters-in-law, Sharon Scarpitti and Mary Scarpitti.
     Survivors include two daughters, Stephanie Rice (David) and Marion Zaphiris (John), both of Erie; son, David L. Scarpitti, Jr. of Maryland; sister, Carole Luschini of Erie; two brothers, Edward Scarpitti of Erie and Gary Scarpitti of Las Vegas, NV; two granddaughters, Samantha and Ava Zaphiris; three grandsons, Jacob and Kyle Rice, and Tyler Zaphiris; his beloved aunts from Butler, PA, and several nieces and nephews.
     Friends may call at the Scott Funeral Home, 2104 Myrtle Street, Friday from 4:00PM until 7:00PM and are invited to the funeral service there Saturday at 11AM. The Rev. Richard A. Moyer will officiate. Private burial will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
