David Pope

April 26, 1961 — January 27, 2021

On January 27, 2021, David Doyle Pope went home to be with the Lord.  He was 59 years of age.  David was born April 28, 1961 in Erie, Pennsylvania to the late Bunyon Larry Pope and Charline Aylor Pope. Upon graduating from East High School in 1979 , David enlisted in the United States Army Reserve.  During his reserve training in logistics, David  attended Morris Brown College in Atlanta, GA.  After college, he  enlisted in the United States Airforce serving as a military police until October of 1982. David relocated to the Washington DC area and pursued his career in informational technology. 

David was a computer engineer employed by NASA, Lockheed Martin, and Cybersecurity for the United States Government.  At the time of his untimely death, David was tier support for the Department of Transportation in Washington DC. 

David was a lifelong Cleveland Browns' fan which surprisingly made him proud this season.   He played baseball, football and was in numerous softball leagues.  David's compassion and humble spirit was evident in every conversation.    David loved attending church and took great pride in overseeing the Junior usher committee at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Sykesville, Maryland before becoming an active member at the First Baptist Church of Glenarden in Landover Maryland.    David prided himself on being a loving father, son, brother, nephew, cousin and everything in-between.  Family was his lifeline. His frequent trips to his hometown of Erie, always kept David connected to the family he loved.   

David was preceded in death by his father, Bunyon Larry Pope, two brothers: Kenneth Aylor Pope, Douglas Wesley Pope; and one granddaughter: Iylee Sage Pope. 

In addition to his mother, David will be sadly missed by his four sons:  Brandon A. Pope, Travis Pope, David D. Pope Jr (Shari), all of Maryland; Aubrey Pope-Hester (Kayla)  of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania; two brothers: Andre Pope(Barbara) Yeadon, Pennsylvania; Michael B. Pope, Laurel, Maryland; eight sisters: Catherine M. Flakes St. Louis, Missouri; Robin R. Bell  Erie, Pennsylvania; Doris Pope Gibson (Courtney) Jacksonville Florida; Karen Pope Thompson (Charles) Lititz Pennsylvania; Carol Smith (Ronald) of Erie, Pennsylvania; Bernice Pope Gaiter (Nicolas) of Cincinnati, Ohio;  Charline Pope of York, Pennsylvania; Anita Harris of Buffalo, New York.  18 beloved grandchildren, one remaining uncle: Clarence Pope (LaCulia) of Chicago, Illinois, a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. 

David will be laid to rest, Friday, February 12, 2021 at Heritage Memorial Cemetery in Waldorf, Maryland.
