David Johnson

David A. Johnson age 83, went to eternal rest with the Lord on Saturday, February 7, 2015.

David was born in Erie, PA on November 15th, 1931, the son of the late Clarence N. and Mabel G. Morehouse Johnson.

He lived at 929 West 24th Street for 70 years. Until his passing he lived at 441 West 3rd Street, Erie, PA. David attended Irving Elementary School, Roosevelt Jr. High School and then graduated from Strong Vincent High School in the Class of 1951.

David served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Upon his completion of 2 years active duty he joined the Army Reserves for another 10 years. He finished his Army time as a Master Sergeant E-7. His final duty assignment was the Sergeant Major for the 7611th Transportation Unit Training Center. David was also in business with his father in a service station doing business as Johnson and Son Texaco at 32nd and Cherry Street for 20 years. David worked for nearly 50 years in a service station. He worked for Cities Service (now Citgo), Texaco, Chevron and Gulf oil companies. He also worked for Internal Revenue Service, Special Olympics, YMCA and Martin Luther King Center.

David was also a stamp collector and was editor and publisher of “The Keystoner” publication of the Western PA Pre cancel Society for 35 years. He was also a life member of the Siebenberger Club, South Erie Turners, and the Zukor Club. He was also a life member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a member of Elmwood Presbyterian Church for nearly 70 years.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Theodore L. Johnson and a nephew David Robert Johnson who died at birth.

Survivors include two nephews, Daniel L. Johnson of Erie and Keith L. Johnson and his wife Bonnie of Sumner, SC. Also several cousins and special friends Scott Shaulis, Tom Skibicki and Michael Moore.

Private arrangements were entrusted to Burton Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 602 West 10th Street Erie, Pa. 16502. Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
