David William Bodner passed away on Saturday February 16, 2019 after a long battle with cancer.
He was born in Erie on June 26, 1947, the firstborn and only son of William H. and Jean (Cage) Bodner.
He was a 1965 graduate of McDowell high School, where he was a member of the National Honor Society. He attended Western Reserve University and Gannon University, where he graduated with degrees in Economics and Finance. He then attended the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Business, where he earned an M.B.A. in Accounting and Finance in 1977.
He was employed at GTE/Verizon for several years in the Network Planning and Infrastructure Capital Budgeting functions.
His hobbies and interests included listening to good classical and jazz music, reading, boating (thanks Captain AL!), photography, and collecting maps and charts. But most of all he loved all things aviation. He was a licensed private pilot and a long term member of AOPA. He was happiest when flying over the beautiful western Pennsylvania countryside in his favorite Cessna N1394Q. He was forever amazed that two bicycle mechanics from Dayton would invent a machine that could fly!
Until his illness, he was never known to decline a cold beer or a well-aged Scotch whisky on the rocks. He was a founding member of the Dull brothers, and shared many a glass of comfort with them over the years.
He was blessed to have a second mother in the person of Virginia McElhenny, who invited him to her home for many delicious meals and dinner discussions.
He wishes to thank his sisters for all the love, support, and comfort provided during his illness. Special thanks to the nurses at the Hamot Infusion Center; you are angels in disguise.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Louise and his second wife Barbara.
He is survived by two sisters; Gail A. Bodner and Janet S. Bodner also of Erie.
