Daniel G Wuenschel, age 86, of Millcreek Township passed away on October 26, 2021 in Broaddus , Texas, surrounded by his family, after being affected by a series of strokes.
The son of the late Carl F and Mary E Glass Wuenschel, he was born August 28, 1935.
As a senior student at Tech Memorial High School, Erie, Pa, he interned half days at Copes-Vulcan, where he started his career path. Continuing to hone his craft as a hydraulics engineer, he worked with Weinman Pump and Supply Co. In 1978 he started his own business as Dan Wuenschel Hydraulic Services where he stayed until his retirement. As a Boy Scout in high school, he continued on in leadership roles within the organization. Additionally, he served with the U.S. Navy Reserve.
He was an active member of Holy Cross Church in Fairview, regularly serving the parish as an altar server, Eucharistic Minister, Holy Name Society member, ”Ancient Acolyte” and volunteered with various church activities. Dan was active with the Cursillo Movement for many years.
Dan enjoyed ice-cream. He excelled working with his hands and challenging his mind, (and ours!), a good play on words and everything from woodworking to fishing, tinkering around the house and ice-cream. Dan had a knack for figuring things out, an intuitive problem solver across mechanical, hydraulic, and woodworking projects, and building the perfect ice-cream cone.
In addition to his parents he, is preceded in death by his sister Mary Deeds. He is survived by his wife Alice (Opie McLaud) Wuenschel whom he married September 15, 1956; his children Gregory, Tionesta, PA; Jeffrey (Nancy), Kingsville, OH; Andrew, Leadville, CO; Jennifer, Hollywood, FL; Mary Beth O’Meara (Cliff), Broaddus, TX; Peter (Ingrid) Ogden, UT; Carrie Rudow (Steven), Orange Village, OH, thirteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister, Carol Peasley, Erie, Pa.
Friends and family may call at Holy Cross Church, Fairview, Pa, November 20, 2021 9:00-11:00 A.M with Mass of Christian Burial, processional to Calvary Cemetery, followed by a celebration reception at Holy Cross.
Donations may be made to Holy Cross Church or to the charity of one’s choice.
