Daniel P. Carlson, age 78, of Greenfield Township, passed away peacefully at UPMC Hamot from complications of the Covid-19 virus on Friday, February 26, 2021.
Dan was born in Clarion, PA on July 16, 1942. He was the only child of Frank B. and Valerie V. Carlson, who both preceded him in death.
He is survived by his true love, his wife, Vickie Lynn Royall Carlson. They shared a nearly 52 year married life together that included dancing, friends, hunting, motorcycling and riding their Harley’s across the U.S.A. They worked together building their homestead, caring for their property and several cats and dogs. Lastly was “Boone,” Dan’s best four-legged pal.
Dan graduated from Titusville High School with the class of 1960, attended Allegheny Technical Institute where he graduated in 1962 as an electrical technician. Determined to gain a college degree, he attended night school at Gannon College and Penn State Behrend. Dan achieved his goal, graduating with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1972.
He worked for several major companies over his career, including Westinghouse Corp. in Baltimore, Erie Technological Products, Erie, PA, United Telephone Company of Ohio, Prestolite Co., Toledo, Ohio, FMC Corporation, Indiana, PA and General Electric Corporation in Erie. During his career, he acquired two U.S. Patents, one while at Prestolite Co. and the second while self-employed at Carlson Power Electronics here in Erie, from which he retired.
Dan was also preceded in death by his good friend and father-in-law, Robert Royall, Jr., his mother-in-law, Dorothy Royall Steiner and a brother and sister-in-law, David and Sherry Royall. In addition to his wife, Vickie, Dan is survived by a brother-in-law, Daniel R. Royall, of Virginia and a nephew and his wife, Robert (Leah) Royall, of North Carolina.
The world was a better place for having Dan in it. He was a man of great integrity who loved intensely, those who mattered to him. He will be missed beyond measure by them.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family with Reverend Richard Moyer officiating and will be livestreamed on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/BurtonQuinnScott/ on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
