Cynthia Loesel Taylor, age 87, of Erie, died on Saturday March 31, 2018 in Salisbury, MD.
Born on May 29, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Mary A. and George O. Loesel.
She graduated from Strong Vincent in 1948 and Penn State University in 1952. In the mid 70’s she led the helm of the EYC Sailing School and spent over a decade working as a substitute teacher for the Fairview School District. Cynthia became a Realtor in 1982 and diligently pursued her career and education by earning her GRI, Graduate Realtor Institute, CRS Certified Residential Specialist, and ABR, Accredited Buyer Representation designations, she is a Life Member of Par Excellence, and in 1993 she got her Broker’s license. She had served on many committees and was elected by her peers for a three year term as a Director of the Greater Erie Board of Realtors, where she was the Realtor of the year in 2001. She worked in real estate over 28 years, with Jan Thereukauf, Nan Held and Sue Sutto. Cynthia’s strong commitment to serving customers and clients contributed to her success
She was a board member of Kiwanis International where she was recognized as Kiwanian of the Year in 2002, a past member of the Erie Yacht Club, and served on the Erie Cemetery Board. She was also a member of Junior League of Erie, Delta Sigma Sorority and in college was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Emmaus Soup Kitchen, Kid's Cafe and The Tom Ridge Recreation Center.
Having been born and raised in Erie, Cynthia spent her life living here except for the years that she was away at college. Her parents raised her to be proud of her city and to this day she was a great booster and strong advocate of family living in Erie. In her free time, Cynthia enjoyed reading, gardening, sailing and spending time at her cottage at Ferncliff Beach, co-owned with her two brothers.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law John Wheeler, brother Richard Loesel and his wife Louise, and sister-in-law Suzy Loesel.
Survivors include her three children, Tracey McCray and her husband Kent of Cumming GA; Mary Beth Belgie and her husband Clay of Salisbury MD; and James S. Taylor, Jr. and his wife Maureen of Erie; two grandchildren Hunter and Hannah Belgie of MD; and brother G. Gilbert Loesel of Erie. Further survived by lots of nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street (at Powell Ave.) on Friday April 6 from 10am until the time of the service at 12 Noon. Burial to follow in Erie Cemetery.
