Cynthia Drew

June 3, 1948 — April 16, 2017

Cynthia D. Drew, age 68 of Erie, passed away at UPMC Hamot on Sunday, April 16, 2017. She was born in Erie, PA on June 3, 1948, a daughter of the late Milton A. and Edna Moultrie Drew.

Cynthia was a graduate of Strong Vincent High School and continued her education at Mercyhurst University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education. Cynthia taught at the SEEM Center as a preschool teacher for many years and was one of the first teachers at the R. Benjamin Wiley Charter school. Cynthia was also employed as a Therapeutic Support Staff worker at the Barber National Institute for several years prior to her retirement.

During her life, Cynthia was a member of Henderson United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher, led summer work programs for the youth, helped with the food pantry and assisted in other capacities wherever and whenever needed. Cynthia later became a member of The Cherry Street Church of God. She enjoyed crafting and collecting angels, elephants and dolls. She enjoyed watching old TV shows, especially with her son. Cynthia loved her family above anything but she always put God first in her life. She was funny, caring and a very loving person with a very witty personality. Cynthia had a special place in her heart for children, which is why she became a teacher and was affectionately known as “Cindy Mama”

In addition to her parents, Cynthia was preceded in death by four brothers; John M. Drew, DeVere G. Drew, Ronald R. Drew and Gerald Drew along with three sisters; Helen R. Drew, Nancy F. Drew and Sandra K. Williams. Cynthia leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Dana M. Drew and his dear friend, two grandchildren, Melanea and David Drew of Erie, PA, five siblings; Marianne Chenault of Beaufort, SC, Asa P. Drew (Diane) of El Cerrito, CA, Jeanne E. Effinger of Beaufort, SC, Barry T. Drew (Marcia) of Mechanicsburg, PA and Valerie D. Brewer of Erie, PA, two sisters-in-law; Barbara L. Drew and Catherine E. Drew and brother-in-law Carl R. Williams all of Erie, PA. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

Friends may call at Burton Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 602 West 10th Street, Erie, PA 16502 on Friday April 21st from 2:00 pm till 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm till 8:00 pm and are invited to services at Trinity United Methodist Church, 3952 Pine Ave. Erie, PA 16504 on Saturday April 22nd at 11:00 am with Pastor Johnny Johnson presiding. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery.
