Cora Anderson

Cora “Corky” Davis Anderson, age 85, of Erie, passed away peacefully at sunrise on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at home. She was born in Scottdale, PA on September 2, 1928, a daughter of the late D.O. and Cora Davis.

Corky graduated from Scottdale High School and Chatham University with a degree in English. In addition to raising their girls, Corky was a great asset to the community in her many volunteer activities.

Corky was a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church where she served on the Altar Guild, the Kahkwa Club, Erie Yacht Club, Westwood Racquet Club, and Delta Sigma Sorority. She was a huge supporter of her church and the arts. She was acitive in the Chatham University Alumni Association. This energizer bunny enjoyed golf, tennis, skiing, cooking, traveling, entertaining, and spending time with family and good friends.

It’s easy to find words to describe Corky: warm, caring, gracious, giving, supportive, inspiring, generous, joyous, and helpful. The essence of her soul was kindness. She lived her life with gusto and was an asset to so many.

Corky was preceded in death by her husband William L. Anderson, siblings Jean Imbrie and Bob Davis, and a nephew Bill Davis.

She is survived by two daughters, Kathy (Jim) Scheider and Chris (Bob) Hornak; grandchildren: Kate (Spencer) Powlison, Will Scheider, Shannon (Chad) Lego, and Michele (Chris) Hitz; and great grandchildren Brandon, Julia, and Nolan Lego and Charlotte and Parker Hitz. She is further survived by her nephews and niece, Ned Imbrie, Tad Imbrie, Dr. Barb Davis, and Gary Davis and a sister-in-law June Davis.

Friends may call on the family on Sunday June 1 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 W. 26th Street and are invited to services on Monday at 12 Noon at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 1070 Dutch Rd., Fairview, PA 16415 with Rev. Donald Baxter presiding.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church or PeopleForBikes.org, PO Box 2359, Boulder,CO 80306 where her granddaughter Kate is actively involved.
