Colleen C. Schaefer, 91, of Erie, died Saturday, January 24, 2015, at Springhill/ForestView. Formerly of Connecticut Drive, she was born September 27, 1923, in Erie, daughter of the late Ralph and Margaret Jarvi Curry. She was a 1942 graduate of East High School and was a secretary at Lovell's. Later, after her children had grown up, she earned her Realtor's License. Her hobbies included bowling, sewing and needlework.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, George M. Schaefer in 2009; also four sisters, Ruth Rastatter, Pat Andres, Marlene Chase and Corinne Johnson; and three brothers, Royal Curry, Roland Curry and Ralph Curry.
Survivors include a daughter, Cindy Hedlund and husband Eric of Erie; a son, David Schaefer and wife Becky of Weare, NH; six grandchildren, Sarah Karasack and husband Ryan of Seven Fields, PA, Matthew Hedlund and Michael Hedlund and wife Casey, all of Erie, Victoria Gancarz and husband Eric of Bow, NH, Benjamin Schaefer and wife Chelsea of Manchester, NH, and Nicholas Schaefer of Concord, NH; three great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Jacob Gancarz of Bow, NH, and Jocelyn Karasack of Seven Fields, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Colleen and her family wish to acknowledge the kindness and caring of the staff at Springhill/ForestView. The staff became a second family to Colleen.
A reception of family and friends will be held in the narthex (W. 10th St. entrance) of Luther Memorial Church, 225 W. 10th St., Saturday 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. followed by a funeral service in the sanctuary at 3:30 p.m. The Rev. William Coleman will officiate. Burial will be at Erie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 North Michigan Ave., Chicago, IL 60601; or to the Bethany Outreach Center, 254 East Tenth St., Erie, PA 16503. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Scott Funeral Home, 2104 Myrtle St.
