Clifton Dobbs, Jr., 88, of Erie, PA, passed away on March 1, 2013 in Erie, PA,
Clifton was born in Pittsburg, PA to the late Clifton and Jannetta Eubanks Dobbs on September 4, 1925.
He grew up in Washington, PA where he graduated from Immaculate Conception High School. He enlisted in the United States Army and served his country in Italy during World War II and received the Purple Heart Medal for wounds suffered in combat.
After moving to Erie, he worked for several local businesses before joining the City of Erie Police Department as a Patrol Officer. He was promoted to Motorcycle Officer, Detective Sergeant and retired as a Lieutenant in 1988. After retirement, he went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from Penn State Erie -The Behrend College.
He was the President of the Church Council of Immaculate Conception Church, Board Member of Catholic Charities and Better Homes, and was a founding member of Perry Memorial (Smith Barney) Post #700 of the American Legion.
Along with his parents, Clifton is preceded in death by his brothers, Gaylord L, George E., and Dalhart T; and sisters, Ida J. Scott, Rose M. Dobbs, Camilla A. Dobbs and, J. Carmelita Dobbs.
Clifton is survived by Jennie E. Dobbs, his wife of 65 years; two sons, Clifton III (Carol) and Marshall S. Dobbs; grandchildren, John M. Larrabee (Patricia), Wendy Bounds (Damion), Shayne Perdue, Aramis Perdue, Briana J. Dobbs; and, Devon A. Dobbs; eight great grandchildren; brother, Vernon D. and, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
There will be no public visitation but friends are invited to a funeral mass at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception on March 7, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Tom Alexa officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's East, 607 East 26th Street, Erie, PA 16504.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of St. Mary's East and Burton Funeral Home for the loving care extended to Clifton Dobbs and for the expressions of love extended to us by our friends during our time of bereavement.
