Clifford Newport

October 12, 1923 — March 7, 2017

Clifford (Kissie) Newport, age 93 of Erie, passed away peacefully at Millcreek Community Hospital on Tuesday March 7, 2017.

Born in Erie on October 12, 1923, son of the late Norman Frank and Winifred Ciceley Braithwaite Newport.

Mr. Newport was a graduate of Millcreek High School, Class of 1941. He served with the Marine Corps overseas from February, 1943 until November, 1945 during World War II.

He was a foreman in the Plastic Molding Department at Presque Isle Plastics for 29 years and retired, after thirteen years in a similar position, from LaCastro Plastics in 1989.

Mr. Newport was a member of the American Legion, Post No. 773, the Erie Maennerchor Club, Siebenbuerger Club, East Erie Turners and the Zukor Club.

He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, yard work and sports. Mr. Newport was a volunteer for the Second Harvest Food Bank and especially loved spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Jane Marquardt Newport, in 1983, and his second wife, Geraldine Johannes as well as two sisters, Winifred (Shyne) Newport and Helen (Honey) Wandel; two brothers, Jack (Bub) Newport and Roy (Tyde) Newport.

Mr. Newport is survived by his twin sons, Gary James Newport and Terry Lee Newport and his wife Brenda, both of Erie; seven grandchildren, Brian Newport, Randy (Kelly) Newport, David Newport, and Matthew (Carolyn) Newport, all of Erie, Laura (James) Hanlon, of Maryland, Lisa (Nate) Zook, of Oley, PA and Ashley Newport of Oregon. He is further survived by nine great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street (at Powell Avenue) on Friday, March 10th from 2:00 till 4:00 and 6:00 till 8:00 pm and are invited to attend a service there­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­ on Saturday, March 11th at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Jim Hodge presiding.

Burial with full Military Honors will follow in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
