Clifford Michaels

     Clifford A. "Mike" Michaels, 96, of Erie, died Friday, November 21, 2014, at St. Vincent Health Center.  He was born May 13, 1918, in Chesterton, IN, son of the late Arthur and Emily Herwald Michaels. A 1937 graduate of Chesterton High School, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgical Engineering from Purdue University. Mr. Michaels was an engineer for Kaiser Aluminum in Erie for seventeen years and in Newark, OH for eight years, retiring in 1980. He had also worked for Revere Copper and Brass Corp., Baltimore, MD, and U.S. Reduction Corp., East Chicago, IN. He was a member of Luther Memorial Church. A resident of Erie since 1963, he was a former member of Millcreek Lions Club and Bethany Lutheran Church where he served on church council, sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and was active in various other volunteer positions. He enjoyed gardening, home maintenance,
woodworking, sailing and swimming.
     In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Mae Leona Edquist Michaels in 2012; and two brothers, Robert L. and Charles E. Michaels. 
     Survivors include a daughter, Joyce K. Gustavson and husband Dr. Roger Gustavson of Wormleysburg, PA; two sons, James A. Michaels and wife Andrea of Chatham, MA and Thomas E. Michaels and wife Karen Ela of Stillwater, MN; five grandchildren, Samuel, Kathleen and Nora Michaels of Stillwater, MN, Lindsay Michaels Peters and husband Chris of Cohasett MA, and Lauren Michaels Bushey and husband Brandon of Arlington, MA; one great-grandchild Hadley Mae Peters; and several nieces and nephews.
     The family will receive friends in the parlor of Luther Memorial Church, 225 W. 10th St., Saturday, December 6, 2014, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. followed by a Memorial Service in the Nave at 3:30 p.m. The Rev. William Coleman will officiate. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.  Memorials may be made to Luther Memorial Church, 225 W. 10th St., Erie, PA 16501; Emmaus Ministries, 345 E. 9th St., Erie, PA 16503; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
