Cheryl Nelson

May 2, 1953 — August 16, 2021

Cheryl (Cherie) L. Nelson passed from imperfect love into perfect love at age 68, on August 16, 2021, following a 46 month battle with cancer.

She was preceded in death by her mother Clara (Lolly), father William, step-dad Ernie, and in-laws Theresa, Edward, and Jeanne.  She was further predeceased by her brother-in-law Brad, nephew Greg, beloved friends Becky and Pat, as well as some of those she cared for during her extensive career in human services.

She is survived by her wife and life partner Michelle, brothers Jeffrey Nelson (JoAnn) and Gary Nelson (Craig), sisters Kathy Proctor (Ray), Laura Breon, and Kris Nelson (Kathi), sister-in-law Marybeth Long (Tom), brother-in-law Edward Domowicz (Linda), many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a large, supportive, and loving community of friends—many spanning over 40 years.

The family would like to extend an invitation to share stories at the Episcopal Cathedral of St. Paul at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 29, 2021.  A funeral mass will follow at 3 p.m., with the Very Reverend Melinda Hall officiating.

In addition, the family extends profound gratitude to Cherie’s healthcare team, and all those who stepped in to assist with her care.  In her honor, please consider donating blood to your local blood bank, smiling at a stranger, planting a hardwood tree, or supporting the Fort LeBoeuf Foundation, Erie County Humane Society, Episcopal Cathedral of St. Paul, AHN Cancer Center, or a friend in need.

She hoped that all divisions would heal and that kindness would prevail.  For her, let’s do that to the best of our ability.

May she rest in the peace that passes understanding.

The service will be livestreamed and can be viewed at: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCITymmbuodw70HTtSQXA6vA/live

Masks will be required for the service.

Arrangements are entrusted to Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Service, Downtown, 602 W. 10th Street Erie.
