Cheryl Genis

Cheryl Jeanne (Kanavy) Genis, age 68, of Erie, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 5, 2019. She was born in Erie on September 14, 1950, daughter to the late William Emerson and Evelyn Baldwin Kanavy.

Cheryl was a 1970 graduate from Academy High School. She was an extremely vibrant and outgoing person. She enjoyed being in nature with many trips to Cook Forest to camp and hike. Cheryl rode a Schwinn bicycle everywhere through Erie until the age of 66. She was constantly listening to music, often blasting Classy 100 or listening to her favorite bands - Journey, local band Train, and attending concerts. She was also a big fan of Valerio’s pizza. Cheryl was a devoted member of Christ United Methodist Church, which she attended her entire life.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Michael Genis.

She is survived by her four sons, Chad Martini (Monica), Christopher Genis, Jeremy Genis (Sarah), and Joshua Genis, her siblings, David Kanavy, Jackie Lehner, and Richard Kanavy. She is also survived by her four grandkids, Zoe Martini, Zachary Martini, Vrinda Genis, and Lalita Genis.

Friends are invited to call at the Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th & Liberty St. on Thursday from 5:00 - 8:00 pm and are invited to attend a Funeral Service Friday at Christ United Methodist Church, 2615 West 32^nd Street, at 11:00 am. Burial will be private in Erie Cemetery directly following.
