Charlotte Gavin, age 72, passed away April 19, 2024, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Erie to the late Abbie Lee and Dora Ella Gavin.
Charlotte graduated from Academy High School in 1969 and earned her bachelor’s degree through Villa Maria College in 1989. She worked for Stairways, Achievement Center and Erie School District – GEARS before retiring from PLCB after 38 years of dedicated service. Charlotte was a member of Delta Sigma Theta and served in the past as Chapter President, Chairperson of the Audit Committee, and the Founder’s Day Committee Co-Chair. She was a faithful member of First Good Samaritan A.M.E. Zion Church where she served as a deaconess, President of the Missionaries and Secretary of the Steward Board. Charlotte also volunteered for Leadership Erie, Booker T. Washington Board and County VIP and was very active in the Democratic Party. She was a wonderful hostess and often held parties at her residence. Charlotte enjoyed traveling, floral arranging, decorating, gardening and was an avid reader. She also loved Jeopardy and enjoyed listening to Gospel music.
In addition to her parents, Charlotte was preceded in death by her brothers, Flanders, Herbert, Abbie Lee Jr., and Vernon Gavin.
Charlotte is survived by her son, Jameel Gavin of Ambridge; grandchildren, Isaiah and Ella Gavin of Ambridge; siblings, Eva Henderson of Erie, Wendy Gavin of Erie, Victoria (Timothy) Higgins of Oklahoma City, OK, Sydney Gavin of Erie, Veronica (Anthony) Brown of Erie, Valencia (Joseph) Wilson of Baltimore, MD, and Charmaine Page of Sewickley, PA; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at First Good Samaritan A.M.E Zion Church, 3209 Pennsylvania Ave, Erie, PA 16504 on Thursday, April 25, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 26, 2024, at 12 Noon at the church with Rev. Dr. Alanzo Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Services, Downtown, 602 W. 10th St., Erie.
