Charlotte Lillie Gleisner Francis, 87, of Erie, passed from this world Monday, March 18, 2013, to the next, after a courageous four year battle with cancer. She was born June 3, 1925, in Erie, daughter of the late Joseph and Lillie Leidner Gleisner. A lifelong resident of Erie, Charlotte graduated from Academy High School in 1943 and worked as a Miss Joy TV attendant at Hamot Medical Center for 16 years retiring in 1992. She had also tutored reading for the Erie School District and worked for G.E. Corp, Erie Dispatch Herald and P.A. Meyers Clothing Store. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and attended St. John's Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School. As a volunteer she was involved with St. Benedicts mentor program and tutored English at Hamilton School. She enjoyed taking drives around the peninsula and often reminisced how she met her husband there. She also enjoyed her dog Rusty, walking and reading and after losing the ability to read due to poor eyesight, she enjoyed listening to books on tape. A memorable time in her life was at the age of 22 spending two weeks in Wyoming horseback riding with her lifelong best friend Helen Bule who is now deceased.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Edward Francis in 1996 and a brother, Robert Gleisner.
Survivors include a daughter, Pamela K. Feltenberger and husband Ronald of Las Vegas, NV; two sons, Dale E. Francis and Gregory L. Francis and wife Laurie Rudolph-Francis, all of Erie; a sister, Bette George of Levittown, PA; three grandchildren, Lance and Shawn Feltenberger of Las Vegas, NV and Whitney Feltenberger of Concord, CA; a special companion, Joseph Vieira of Erie; a special friend, Bert Reed of Erie; and several nieces and nephews.
A private memorial service was held at Scott Funeral Home, 2104 Myrtle St., Monday, March 25, 2013 with the Rev. Roy P. Washill of St. John's Lutheran Church officiating. Private inurnment was at Erie Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, 2149 N. 2nd St., Harrisburg, PA 17110-1005; or to Erie City Mission, P.O. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Charlotte's hospice nurse Julie, her aide Lisa and to all those who helped with Charlotte's care during this difficult time.
