Charline Pope

September 28, 1940 — October 6, 2021

Charline went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday October 6, 2021 at her residence.  Charline was born in Champagne, Illinois on September 28, 1940.  She was the daughter of the late Charles E. Aylor and Guessie Kelley Aylor.  Charline dedicated her life to Christ at a very early age.   By the age of 12 years old, she served as the pianist for Mason Temple Church of God in Christ (COGIC) under the tutelage of the late Bishop Anthony Mason.  As a teen, she became licensed as a Hospitality Missionary and served the greater Danville, Illinois area.   She remained in these ministries until moving to Erie, Pa in the fall of 1958. She married in 1959 and joined her husband at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church playing the piano for the Baptist Training Union Ministry. In 1977, her gifting for music then transitioned her to become the pianist for Mount Zion Apostolic Faith Church of God.  Charline served as their pianist and faithful member for over 43 years.

Missionary work was the primary focus in life. Some of her missionary works included: Providing neighborhood transportation to and from services, passing out bible tracks, playing for the Salvation Army and various assisted living facilities during each holiday season. Throughout all of her years of service to the ministry, her most cherished title was being that of a mother and grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Bunyon Pope; sons Kenneth Aylor Pope Sr, and David Pope; three brothers William (Marshall) and Thurmond J. Kelley, Charles E. Aylor, three sisters; Madeline and, Kathryn Kelley, Mary Francis (Aylor) Williams.

She leaves to cherish her memory nine children; L. Andre Pope (Barbara) of Philadelphia PA; Catherine M. Flakes of St. Louis MO; Robin R. Pope of Erie PA; Michael B. Pope of Laurel MD; Doris Pope Gibson (Courtney) of Jacksonville FL; Karen Pope Thompson (Charles)  of Lititz PA; Carol L. Smith (Ronald) of Erie  PA; Bernice Pope-Gaiter (Nicolas) of Cincinnati OH; and Charline Aylor Pope of York, PA. She leaves behind one step-daughter, Anita Harris of Buffalo, NY, one brother in law, Clarence (LaCulia) Pope of Chicago, IL, her beloved 40 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
