Charles Schmidt

November 27, 1930 — July 30, 2016

Charles W. “Corky” Schmidt, age 85, of East Springfield, passed away Saturday. July 30, 2016 at Fairview Manor.

He was born November 27, 1930 in Fairview Township a son of the late Max A. and Dorothy Leopold Schmidt.

He was a 1948 graduate of Girard High and graduated from Behrend as a Boiler Technician. Corky worked for over 35 years as a boiler operator at RMI in Ashtabula, OH and was a life long farmer at his home.

He attended Federated Church many years and volunteered many hours; he was a life member and volunteer East Springfield Fire Department, where he had also served on the board. He was a life member of Lake Erie Lodge No. 347 F&A.M., and a member of the NRA. Corky was also a volunteer at WLD Ranch in Fairview. He enjoyed farming and hunting and went on many big game hunts.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Marie Newman Smith.

He is survived by his wife Anna Craig Schmidt, whom he married April 7, 1950; three sons, William M. Schmidt and his wife Pearl of Albion; Samuel R. Schmidt and his wife Renee of E. Springfield; Timothy A. Schmidt and his wife Kristi of E. Springfield; two daughters, Patricia Lynn Laughlin of Conneaut, OH and Tammy Owens and her husband Mark both of East Springfield; 9 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; a niece, Bonnie Miller and several other nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home 525 Main Street East, Girard on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. and are invited to attend services there on Tuesday at 10 am.

Burial in Springfield Cemetery.
