Charles Miller, Jr., 81, of Erie, was surrounded by family as he passed peacefully on Saturday, December 20, from this life into eternity.
He graduated from Academy High School in 1951 before serving in the Army in the Korean War from 1953 to 1955. He worked for many years and retired from Kaiser Aluminum in 1997. But what he did for a living doesn’t describe who he was while he was with us.
Charles, or Chuck as he was known to many, is most remembered by a constant stream of antics that defined his life. For example, when he tripped while playing street ball with his grandchildren, he drew an outline of his body on the pavement with chalk, and bruised his face in that fall so badly, he insisted on wearing a paper bag with holes cut out for eyes. And he was constantly flexing muscles he never had. He was a joyful and quick-witted man, but he was also a man of strong convictions and opinions. He spent a lot of hours solving crossword and cryptogram puzzles and playing solitaire on his laptop. But the things he loved most was to hop in his car and go for long rides, and spend long winters in Florida.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Sr., and Phoebe Miller, son Randall Miller, and brothers Theodore and Jack Miller.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Lois Miller. He is the father of James (Nancy) Miller of Erie, Timothy (Beth) Miller of Columbus, Ohio, and Linda (Doug) King of Pittsburgh; grandfather of Andrew (Jena) Miller of Pittsburgh, Stacey Miller of Erie, Ryan (Kathleen) Regelman of Monteray, Calif., Alexi Regelman of Pittsburgh, Ty Miller of Columbus, Ohio; and step-grandfather of Jeff Kemick of Erie, William King and Kathryn King of Pittsburgh; brother of Charlotte Morschhauser of Erie, Rosalie (David) Flick, and Raymond (Mary) Miller of Rockville, MD. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
