Charles A. McClenathan, Jr., a resident of Erie passed away peacefully at UPMC Hamot on Monday, September 16, 2024 following a long illness.
Chuck was born in Erie on May 3, 1947, the son of the late Charles and Jean (Brinig) McClenathan, Sr. He graduated from Gilmour Academy in Gates Mills, OH and thereafter attended Georgetown University and Syracuse University where he graduated with a degree in Business Administration. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and was very proud of his service in the military.
Chuck’s interest and aptitude for business and finance took him to New York City where he worked in banking with Rothschild & Co. for several years. He returned to Erie over 25 years ago at which time he renewed old friendships and developed new ones. He worked for several years at Erie Cab Co. and Roth Cadillac. Taking a cue from his longtime friend and mentor, Tom Karle, he provided counseling and support to countless people battling alcohol and drug addiction. It was for him the most fulfilling work he ever did.
Chuck is survived by his cousins as well as many close and dear friends including Peter Smith, a lifelong friend since the age of two; Attorney Daniel Sawers, a Gilmour classmate, and Christine Karle who was with him when he passed.
