Charles Knight, Jr.

Charles G. “Charlie” Knight, age 84, of Millcreek, was taken to Heaven on Thursday December 8, 2016 at Manchester Commons surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Chicago, IL, on June 3, 1932, the only son of Charles G. Sr. and Mary Knight. Charlie graduated from Millcreek High School, attended the University of Pittsburgh, Gannon University and took a number of continuing education courses at Penn State Behrend. He served during the Korean Conflict in the U. S. Army Medical Corp.

He was an outside medical supply salesman for Heyl Physicians Supply Company for 21 years, and then became division manager of the Erie branch of General Medical Corporation, retiring in 1992. Charles was an American Surgical Association “Certified: Consultant”.

He coached MYAA baseball and basketball. He was president of the McDowell Athletic Boosters from 1977 to 1978. Charlie was a member of the American Legion and the Elks Club. He was a volunteer at Emmaus Soup Kitchen for a number of years and was also an ardent golf enthusiast and headed the Monday Morning Senior League at Erie Golf Course. Charlie also had a passion for steel head fishing and a keen interest in aviation.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margaret (Peggy) Knight; a daughter, Elizabeth Knight of Erie; a son Charles G. Knight III and his wife Renee of Erie; and two grandsons, Dr. Jordan Knight of Indianapolis, IN and Cory Knight and his wife Kara of Erie.

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 W. 26th Street (at Powell Ave.) on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and are invited to attend a service on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Lakewood United Methodist Church 3956 West 10th Street, Erie, Pa 16505. Interment will be held private in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Memorials may be made to Lakewood United Methodist Church.
