Charles Holdsworth

November 21, 1929 — December 13, 2013

Charles “Chuck” W. Holdsworth, 84, of Girard, passed away Friday, December 13, 2013 at St. Vincent Health Center. He was born in Erie, PA on November 21, 1929, the son of the late Joseph and Bessie (Filegar) Holdsworth.

He graduated from Academy High School and then served in the Air Force during the Korean War. Chuck was a mechanic and owned Holdsworth Service Station at 13th and Sassafrass with his dad and later, was sole owner at 8th and Kahkwa; he was co-owner of Pittsburgh Inn from 1972-1986. He was a member of the Siebenberger Singers, Erie Symphonic Choir, Fairview American Legion and the Siebenberger Club. His hobbies included golf, bowling, refinishing furniture, performing in plays and concerts. Chuck was an avid Pittsburgh Pirate and Steeler fan. He will most be remembered for his beautiful singing voice and hugs.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Joe, Jr., Robert and Gerald; and three sisters: Ruth Cranston, Charlotte Koffler and Joan Swagerty.

Chuck is survived by his wife of 27 years, Evelyn. A daughter, Sharon Barteldt and her husband Bill of Waterford and a son, Keith and his wife Karen of Fairview, NC. Grandchildren: Erin Honeycutt and her husband Duane of Black Mountain, NC and Brandon Kuhn of Wooster, Ohio; a sister Rose Lang of Harborcreek. Great grandchildren: Ryan Kuhn, Gabe and Sierra Honeycutt and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Burton Funeral Home Girard, 525 Main Street East, Sunday 1-3 and 6-8 PM. Services will be held at Girard United Methodist Church on Monday at 11AM. with the Reverends Brock Beveridge and Darrell Greenawalt officiating. The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations may be made to the John Kanzius Foundation 130 W. 8th St., Erie, PA 16501 or the charity of one’s choice.
