Charles A Fischer, age 77, of Millcreek, loving father, grandfather and proud Veteran died peacefully on Saturday, December, 19, 2020 with his family by his side. He was born October 9, 1943 to the late Catherine (Heid) and Francis Fischer.
He attended St. John’s grade school where he was voted athlete of the year, graduated from Cathedral Prep (1962) and Gannon College (1966) with a B.S. in Accounting. He worked 41 years in accounting, financial management and internal auditing for the City of Erie, Zurn Industries, and AMSCO later Steris, where he attained a certification in internal auditing (CIA).
He served in the US Army, including a year in the AMERICAL Division in Viet Nam during the war. Charles enjoyed running, working out, reading, and adored spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughter, Carla O’Connor (Mac Golden) and 3 grandchildren, Cullen, Mila and Caroline. 2 sisters, Nancy Fischer (SSJ) of Erie, and Jane Hesch of Campbell, NY and sister-in-law, Marjorie Fischer of Erie, 2 nieces, Jana Fischer and Kaitlyn Robertson, and 3 nephews, Mark Fischer, Rob Hesch and Brian Hesch. He is also survived by former son-in-law Michael O’Connor, ex-wife Marilyn Fischer, and 2 step-children who were all still a big part of his life, Karen (Cheney) Stoops and Joann (Cheney) Flick.
He was preceded in death by his brother Richard Fischer, sister Carol Fischer (SSJ) and brother-in-law Bob Hesch.
Friends may call the Burton Quinn Scott Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th St (at Powell Ave.) on Tuesday, December 22, from 6-8 PM and are invited to attend a prayer service there on Wednesday, December 23, at 9:30 AM followed by Mass of Christain Burial at Our Lady of Peace Church 2401 W. 38th Street, Erie, PA 16506 at 11:00 AM. Burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery with full Military Honors. For those unable to attend the service, it will be live streamed at https://www.facebook.com/Our-Lady-of-Peace-Parish-747478222027777. All CDC guidelines will be followed, capacity limits, social distancing and masks will be required.
