Charlene Carter Barnes, age 75, of Erie, transitioned from labor to reward on Friday, May 5, 2017 at Saint Vincent Hospital. She was born July 13, 1941 in Wayne County, MS a daughter of the late L.J. and Mabel Dickerson Carter.
Charlene was a 1959 graduate of Strong Vincent High School and earned an Administrative Assistant Degree at Erie Business Center. She was employed as a secretary for NWLS for eight years and Congressman Joe Vigarilo for six. Charlene then worked for Saint Vincent Hospital, where she retired from in 2000, after 20 years. Charlene was a former member of Friendship Baptist Church, Abundant Life Ministries International and Community Center, and a current member of First Good Samaritan AME Church where she served on the Deaconess Board. Charlene was also a member of The City Mission Women’s Group.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Carla Barnes-Terry and her husband Charles and her son, Orenthal Barnes and his wife Fredreka; three grandchildren, Ashton Barnes, David Terry and Aryion Haynes; a sister Jettie Arrington and a brother, Deacon Robert “RL” Carter and his wife Evon as well as a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends
Friends may call at the First Good Samaritan AME Zion Church, 3209 Pennsylvania Ave., Erie, PA 16504 on Friday, May 12th from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 12 p.m. with Reverend Amos Goodwine, Jr. presiding. Interment will follow at Lakeside Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc.
