Catherine (Kate) Hancherick Eppolito, age 96, of Erie passed away Thursday, December 17, 2015 at Fairview Manor. She was born March 25, 1919 in Twin Rocks, PA the daughter of the late John and Catherine Kuharik Hancherick.
Kate had worked as a cook at Elmwood Presbyterian Lodge and when her late husband John retired in 1980, they moved to Clymer, NY where they were active members of St. Matthias Catholic Church. They returned to Erie in 2001 and became members of St. Andrew Catholic Church where Kate belonged to their Ladies Guild. Very proud of her Catholic faith, Catherine joined the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Erie 515 in 1949. She served in the office of first and second vice- regent, and monitor with the court. She also was a counselor with the Junior Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Erie 515. In addition, over the years she served in many chairmanships and was always involved in the Court’s activities.
Kate loved to cook and entertain her family and friends.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, A. John Eppolito who died in 2008, along with her brothers and sisters; Michael, Andrew, George, John, Mary, Susie, Julie and Annie.
Kate is survived by her children; John Eppolito and his wife Diane of Phoenix, AZ; Vincent Eppolito and his wife Mary Lou; Tony Eppolito and his wife Debbie; Catherine Wilson and Mary Stidham, all of Erie. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and may great and great-great-grandchildren along with nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th & Liberty St. on Sunday from 2-5 & 7-9 PM and are invited to attend a Funeral Mass Monday at 10:00 AM in St. Andrew Catholic Church. Private burial will be in St. Matthias Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Second Harvest Food Bank, 1507 Grimm Dr., Erie, PA 16501.
