Carolyn B. “Pinkie” Willis, age 91, formerly of Springhill, FL and Girard, PA died on Wednesday, September 16, 2015.
Born in Orlando, FL on October 28th, 1923 she was the daughter of the late Herbert Forest and Laula Main Bailey.
Carolyn graduated Clermont-Mineola High School, class of 1941, attended Rollins College in Winter Park, FL and graduated from Florida State College for Women in 1945 with a BS in Commerce.
She was employed at Markham’s Music store and the Erie County Courthouse, then stopped to raise her children from 1946 - 1963. She then was employed at the Cosmopolite Herald and O’Leary’s Dental until moving to Florida in 1977.
As long as she lived in Girard, Carolyn was a member of Girard Methodist Church. After moving back to Florida, she served as a volunteer at the Florida State Park System, where she helped to maintain the hiking trails there into her seventies. In addition, she delivered Meals on Wheels for eighteen years until she was 84 years old. She went kayaking, hiking and camping with a group of people, sometimes experiencing sections of the Appalachian Trail. Carolyn also loved motorcycling. At home she enjoyed bridge, canasta, reading, knitting, and sewing. She not only loved music, but also had exceptional talent, playing piano and coronet, and also singing beautifully.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death in 1985 by her husband Theodore D. Willis, Sr. whom she married on Oct. 22nd, 1945 and in 2001 by her grandson Brian Enders.
She is survived by her two daughters, Lynn Glorieux and husband Jean Luc and Jaqueline Enders and husband Patrick and her son Ted Willis, Jr. and wife Susan.
Her grandchildren are Jonathan Glorieux and wife Maria; Nico Glorieux and wife Caroline; Jill Enders and husband Tony Seitz; Molly Enders and husband Villian Naeem; Katie Enders; Emily and Andrew Willis. Carolyn is further survived by nine great grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful love and care provided by Tom, Sally, Melanie, Cathy and Sharon of Great Lakes Hospice.
Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street, (at Powell Avenue) on Friday September 25th from 11 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with a memorial service at 12:00 noon with Reverend Ralph Rudy officiating.
