Carole DelPorto

April 10, 1940 — December 16, 2023

Carole Ruth Slodownik DelPorto, “Ouchie”, died on December 16,2023.

Carole was born on April 10, 1940, to Edward and Marion (Roberts) Slodownik. She was a Class of 1958 graduate of Academy High School.

Carole was a cashier at American General Life Insurance for ten years and then became a devoted homemaker and mother when she started her family with her husband, Ron.

She was known by family and friends as Ouchie. One day, while caring for her granddaughter, Tatum, she burned her finger and said, “ouch”. Tatum picked up on this and Carole officially became Ouchie.

An avid sports fan, she enjoyed watching her daughter Melissa play soccer through her high school and college career. She watched many Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins games at her daughter Lori’s house.

She was not a frequent traveler but fondly remembered a trip to Myrtle Beach, SC to visit Tatum in college and trips to Illinois to visit Melissa and her family.

Carole especially enjoyed planting flowers and spending time outside feeding the birds. She also adored any animal she came across.

She especially loved a sweet treat every day and scrolling on Facebook on her iPad. Her husband, Ron, was often “tech support” when she couldn’t find something or got lost on Facebook.

Carole was loved and adored by many. In later years, when she had various hospital stays and visiting nurses, she was always known to walk out of every visit knowing everything about the nurses, their families, aspirations, etc. She always had great admiration and respect for nurses, and they adored her just the same. She would especially want to mention Jamie and Darcie and her beloved doctor, Maggie.

Family and friends treasured their time with her. It was often said “Everybody loves Ouchie”.

She is proceeded in death by her parents, Edward and Marion Slodownik, both of her sons Matthew, and Christopher, son-in-law, Donald Yusz, and sister, Evelyn Askey Zalesky.

Carole is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ronald DelPorto, two daughters Lori Yusz, Melissa DelPorto and her wife Michelle of IL, granddaughters, Tatum Yusz and Mercedes Ghidina, and sisters Mary Lou Winkelman Dubowski and Susan Messenger.

Friends and family may call at Burton Quinn-Scott Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th St, Erie, PA on Thursday, December 21, 2023, from 2:00 to 4:00PM and 5:00 until the celebration of her life and time of sharing at 7:00PM.
