Carol Sotelo

On the passage of Carol Gartner Sotelo, beloved daughter of Ernest and Margaret Gartner, wife of Hugo Sotelo-Zarate, MD and mother to Margarita Sotelo Ortiz, Andrea Sotelo Gonzalez, Sandra Sotelo Esparza, and known as Mami Carol to many, she will be missed. 

She leaves a legacy defined by laughter, kindness, and love. She was a daughter of Erie before becoming a wife of Colombia. Living in Ibague, she started several businesses, raised her daughters, and left a lasting impression on the community with her spark, compassion, and generosity. 

In the late 1980’s, Carol returned to Erie where she worked as a real estate agent before eventually retiring to Bradenton, FL. She brought her warmth and became an avid bridge player, exuberant host, and exemplary cook. 

Carol will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and for refusing to take life too seriously. She especially loved living near her family and grand-dogs.

She leaves an emptiness in all of our hearts and a legacy of love and hope 

She is survived by her brother, Jack Gartner, three daughters, six grandchildren, and four grand-dogs.  In the race of life, in “hanging up her tennis shoes” she finished first in our hearts.

In celebration of her life, A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, February 23, 2018 at 1 p.m. at St. Luke Church, 421 East 38^th St., Erie, with Father Leo Galina presiding.  Arrangements are entrusted to Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 602 W. 10^th St. Erie.
