Carol W. Harman, age 71, of Fairview passed away Saturday December 21, 2013 at Pleasant Ridge Manor West.
Carol was born in Greensburg, PA December 14, 1942, daughter of the late Otto J. and Jean S. Watson.
She graduated from Hempfield High School in Greensburg, PA, received her B.A. from Clarion University and then received her M.Ed. from the University of Pittsburgh.
Carol was a teacher in the Leechburg, Pittsburgh Area, Franklin Area, and Cranberry Area School Districts. She was very proud to have started the Special Education Program in the Franklin Area Schools. She was a past member of the American Association of University Women; a member of Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities; and worked for many years with the L’Arche Community where she served as Head of House.
Carol enjoyed gardening and bird watching, loved animals and had a passion for both reading and writing poetry. She will always be remembered for her modesty, compassion and gentle wit.
Carol was a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church where she served on the Hospitality Committee.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard E. Harman, who she married on June 27, 1964.
She is survived by her son, Captain Dale R. Harman USN and his wife Karen of Rye, New Hampshire and her daughter, Amy Konop and her husband David of Minneapolis, MN. She is further survived by her sister, Marion Watson of Greensburg, PA; her mother-in-law, Francis Harman of Seneca PA; her sister-in-law, Diane Harbison and her husband Charles of Oil City, PA and a niece and nephew.
Friends may call at the Burton West Lake Funeral Home 3801 West 26th Street (at Powell Ave.) on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and are invited to attend services there on Friday at 10:00 a.m. with the Reverend Sabeth Fitzgibbons officiating.
Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
