Carl Longnecker

February 22, 1928 — April 20, 2013

Carl G. Longnecker, age 85, of Erie, died on Saturday April 20, 2013. He was born in Erie on February 22, 1928 son of the late Grover and Agnes Zeller Longnecker.

He was a graduate of Cathedral Prep High School. He worked as a parts and service operator at Longnecker Motor Sales, and then as an insurance adjuster at Allstate Insurance Agency before retiring. Carl was a long time member of Saint Peter Cathedral as well as St. Julia Roman Catholic Church. He was an active resident at St. Mary's Asbury Ridge, serving as a mass lector and president of the Resident Association. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and summers on Lake Erie.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years Evelyn Miller Longnecker, his son Christopher, a brother Gerard Longnecker and a sister Louise Raffels.

He is survived by two sons, Carl G. Longnecker Jr. and his wife Tricia of Tampa, FL. and Charles M. Longnecker and his wife Barbara of Miami, FL; and his daughter-in-law Mary Ellen Longnecker of Erie.

He is further survived by six grandchildren: Carl and his wife Carmen, Matthew and his wife Julia, Douglas, Daniel, Dr. Nicholas and his wife Marissa, and Christine Longnecker; and two great grandchildren: Nathan and Adrianna.

Friends may call at Burton Funeral Home, 602 West 10th Street, on Tuesday from 2 to 4p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday at 11am at St. Mary's Asbury Ridge Chapel, 4855 W. Ridge Road, Erie, PA 16506. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Longnecker-Miller Scholarship Fund care of Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, Fifth and Pine Avenue, Jamestown, NY 14701 or St. Mary's Asbury Ridge.
