Carl Cohen passed away peacefully at home in Erie, Pennsylvania on December 15th, 2018. He was born on April 4, 1931 in Erie. Carl graduated from Academy High School in 1948, and after, served in the United States Navy. Following his service in the Navy, he attended and graduated from Gannon University. Carl was a lifelong resident of Erie and a dedicated member of the Jewish Community. He served as President of Congregation Brith Shalom and was a recipient of the Golden Heart Award.
Carl was a devoted son and worked alongside his father at Cohen’s Furniture on 18th Street and later owned Cohen’s Carpeting for 50 years. Carl worked until the age of 80 and he rarely missed a day. Throughout his career, he made sure the Cohen name was synonymous with quality and good service. He had a love for horse racing, fishing, ice cream and most of all family.
Carl was a friend, advisor, role model and mentor to many. He was a devoted son, brother, husband, and loving father and grandfather. Carl had a wonderful 50 year marriage to Elaine Cohen, who predeceased him. In addition to his wife, Marty Cohen, and her son Christopher, Carl is survived by his children Marcie and Richard Brostoff, Jim and Kim Cohen, Amy and Gene Marx, and Shari and Jeff Lieberman; and 11 grandchildren-Alexandra, Benjamin, Josh, Bridger, Carter, Libby, Andy, Julia, Sophie, Emily and Jonah.
Friends may attend funeral services on Monday December 17, 2018 at 2 pm at Burton Funeral Home, 602 West 10th Street in Erie. Burial will follow at C.B.S. Cemetery.
