Caesar Pope

February 28, 1937 — February 8, 2014

Caesar Doyle Pope, age 76, departed this life to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 8, 2014 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born February 28, 1937 in Laurel, Mississippi to the late Doyle and Bethena (Grayson) Pope. He moved to Erie in 1944, and Graduated from Academy High School in 1956. He served four years in the U.S. Navy. He worked at General Electric, and retired in 1995 after 30 years of service. Caesar enjoyed bowling, boxing and music. He was an avid reader, devoted Cleveland Browns fan and a faithful member of the American Legion, Post 700.

Besides his parents, Caesar is preceded in death by three brothers, Larry, Raymond, and John Pope, all of Erie. Six sisters: Sebelle Turner and Bernice Pope of Chicago, Illinois. Maebelle Siew, Lorraine Pointer and Avalon Wright all of Erie, and Charlene Pope of Laurel, Mississippi.

Caesar leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife Rosie Murry Pope with 49 years of marriage. Three sons, David-Allen (Qiana) Sumner of Rhode Island, Michael A. (Veronica) Pope of Maryland and Charles Kevin (Milly) Pope of North Carolina; one daughter, Stacey (Renwrick) Rivers of Erie. Fourteen (14) Grandchildren, Latonya Dove, Renwrick Rivers Jr. Michael A. Pope Jr, TeQia Morse, Tiara Morse, David-Allen Sumner Jr., Qiana Sumner Jr., David-Allen Jones, Caesar Sumner, Gerald Dyer, Nichole Ridgeway, Jasmyne Crockett, Jesenya Nieves and Daniel Nieves.

Caesar also leaves to cherish two brothers Willie (Catherine) Pope of Erie and Clarence (Laculia) Pope of Chicago, Il and one sister, Betty (Jetson) Lyons of Erie. One God- daughter, Mamie Meredith, and sister-in-law, Charlene Pope of Erie and a host of all his “favorite” nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Friends are invited to share with the family on Thursday February 13, 2014, from 5:00-8:00pm at Second Baptist Church, 757 East 26th, Erie, Pa. 16504 and attend service Friday February 14th, 2014 at 11:00am, with Reverend Dr. Allen B.
