Bruce N. Grygier, age 62, of Plattsburg, MO died after a brief illness on Sunday July 8, 2018 at home. He was born in Erie on February 26, 1956, a son of the late Richard and Billie Fitz Grygier.
Bruce graduated from McDowell High School, class of 1974 and earned his BS in Engineering Technology from the University of Central Florida. He retired from the U.S. Airforce as a Lt. Colonel after 35 years of service. In his retirement he was a subcontractor with businesses in Dubai and Korea. He enjoyed motorcycling and scuba diving all over the world. He was an authorized instructor with a 4th degree black belt in Hapkido and was an avid runner. He was a great guy who was often the life of the party.
He is survived by his wife of 4 years after 8 years of courtship Hwang In J of Plattsburg, MO; his children: Richard “RJ” of Hinesville, GA and Rachel Grygier of Alexandria, VA; his siblings: Karen (Francis) Surovick of Fairview, Richard (Mary) Grygier of Williamsville, NY, Holly (William) Hafner of Fairview, Scott (Nancy) Grygier, Tina Adams and Melodi (Todd) Buchanan, all of Erie. He is further survived by his sister-in-law Hwang In Hee, his mother-in-law Lee Sook Yue and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call on the family on Sunday July 22nd from 2-4pm at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 W. 26th St. (at Powell Ave.) and attend a memorial service there on Monday at 10am. Burial will follow in Laurel Hill with military honors.
