Brenda Sue Martin Kress, 48, died on Sunday, June 24, 2018, at her home in Erie. She was born on August 1, 1969, in Erie, daughter of the late Gerald Edward Martin and Audrey Oberacker Martin Halliwill. A 1987 graduate of Iroquois High School, she earned an associate degree in accounting at Carlow Business School in Pittsburgh, Pa. and worked in the Accounting Department of Emergycare for over 15 years. Brenda had also worked in accounting for J.H. Bennett Moving & Storage, Steris Corporation, and Essentra Components, and did bartending on the side for Woody's Alibi Bar.
She was preceded in death by her father in 1999; her mother in 2017; a brother, Brent D. Martin, in 2011; her maternal grandparents, Murray and Jean Oberacker; and her paternal grandparents, William and Gertrude Martin.
Survivors include two brothers, Brian K. Martin and wife Lisa of Lawrence Park, Pa. and Brad W. Martin and wife Nanette of Erie; her former husband and friend, David E. Kress of Erie; a stepdaughter, Leah Kress of Erie; her stepfather, Harold Halliwill of Lyons, Ohio; two nephews, Andrew Martin and wife Ashley and Mojave Always Martin, all of Erie; three nieces, Emily Martin, Meghan Hofmann and husband Dylan, and Monaco Sadaat Martin, all of Erie; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to Lakeland Hospice, especially Leslie, for the special care given to Brenda.
A Reception of Friends will be held at the Scott Funeral Home, 2104 Myrtle Street, on Saturday, July 7, 2018 from 2 p.m. until the time of a Celebration of Life Service there at 5 p.m. The Rev. Kristen Papson, of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, will officiate.
